Introduction
Text: 2 Samuel 8 – David experiences 12 years of victory and success. He gains wealth and notoriety.
We have a dangerous propensity to live as “practical athiests” when granted success and prosperity.
How Do You Stay Grounded?
- Continue to function under God’s rules. Successful people are often tempted to assume the rules no longer apply to them.
- Take active steps to ensure you are relying on the Lord.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. (Psalm 20:7)
Only he must not acquire many horses for himself or cause the people to return to Egypt in order to acquire many horses, since the Lord has said to you, ‘You shall never return that way again.’ (Deuteronomy 17:16)
- Honor God in your resources. If you don’t make it a habit to give when you have little, you will not give when you are entrusted more.
- Remember your core identity. David never lost sight of who he was before the Lord.
An Enduring Kingdom of Peace
This passage again points us to Christ, and the culmination of true peace when he returns. Have you turned your life over to Christ?
